FAQ

Which box will fit in my car? We design boxes to fit a wide range of estate cars, Jeeps, vans, and pickups. Some vehicles can fit more than one option, so the right choice depends on your dog’s size, how many dogs you travel with, and how much extra boot space you need. 👉 To find the best match, use our Search by Vehicle tool — simply select your make and model to see which boxes fit your car. Do you have the box I want in stock? We keep some boxes in stock, but most are made to order once you place your order. Thanks to our efficient production process, your box is usually ready to ship within just a few days. Whether in stock or made to order, all boxes are delivered within our standard 7-day lead time. Will my dog fit comfortably in this box? Each box is uniquely sized, and the exact dimensions are listed on every product page. We also provide a dog size guideshowing the approximate breeds and sizes suited to each box. We recommend measuring your dog(s) and comparing with the listed dimensions before ordering. If you’d like extra help, you can contact us here. 👉 You can also see real examples of dogs inside our crates in the customer review section on each product page. Can I get my box in different colours? All of our boxes are available in Signature Black or White Option. We generally recommend Black, as it’s easier to keep clean and is often the better choice for most dogs year-round. Some customers choose White in the summer months, but it’s important to note that crate colour has little effect on temperature — your car should always be well-ventilated and kept cool for your dog’s safety. Are the boxes easy to lift in and out of my car? Yes — our boxes are designed to be easy to handle. Most models are light enough for one person to lift in and out on their own. For larger boxes, you may find it easier with a second person’s help. 👉 ▶ Watch Installation Video — see John installing two of our largest models, the DT 500 and DT 1000L, into a van. How can I secure the box in the boot? Our boxes are designed to fit the shape of your boot, so in most cars they don’t require any additional supports. For pickups and vans, however, we recommend using our Quick Tie-Down Straps to secure the box in place. They’re quick, easy to use, and provide extra stability when needed. 👉 ▶ Watch How to Use Quick Tie-Down Straps How do I remove the divider? Most of our boxes come with a removable divider for flexibility. 👉 ▶ Watch this video — skip to the 1:00 mark to see exactly how to remove the divider. ⚠️ Important: The divider in the DT1000 series is built into the box and cannot be removed. What is the bumper protector for? The bumper protector shields your car’s paintwork from scratches caused by your dog’s nails as they jump in and out of the box. It also prevents mud and grime from covering your bumper. Made from non-slip rubber, it provides extra grip for your dog — especially helpful when their paws are wet. We highly recommend adding a bumper protector when purchasing your box for both car and dog protection. How do I fit the bumper protector? The bumper protector sits underneath the box when it’s in place and folds down over your bumper when you open the boot to let your dogs out. Once your dogs are back inside and the doors are closed, the protector simply hooks onto the stainless-steel mesh doors — so it’s always ready to use next time. 👉 ▶ Watch this video — see John fitting both the bumper protector and DT Boxes. Where are DT Boxes made? All of our dog boxes are made in-house at our workshop in Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland (5 Carn Dr., BT63 5WJ). By manufacturing everything ourselves, we ensure the highest quality standards — and when you buy a DT Box, you’re buying directly from the manufacturer. What are the boxes made of? DT Boxes are built from super-tough, anti-shatter hard plastic with stainless steel doors. This combination makes them highly durable, lightweight, and resistant to rust — giving you a crate that’s built to last. Are the doors lockable? Yes — all DT Box doors are lockable as standard. Each box comes with four keys, all keyed alike, so the same key will operate every lock on your box. For convenience, the keys are supplied on a DT Boxes lanyard. What are the doors made from? The doors are made from stainless steel mesh. Stainless steel is strong, highly durable, and anti-corrosive — meaning it won’t rust and will stand up to years of use. What is the escape hatch option? The escape hatch is an optional safety feature located at the back of your box. In the event of an accident where the boot cannot be opened, you can fold down your rear seats and access your dog safely through the escape hatch. 👉 ▶ Watch the Escape Hatch in Action Will my dog get warm in a box? No — the temperature inside a DT Box matches the ambient temperature of your car. Each box is fitted with a stainless steel mesh door and ventilation holes, ensuring constant airflow and preventing heat build-up. This means your dog stays safe and comfortable while inside the box. ⚠️ Safety reminder: As with any vehicle, dogs should never be left unattended in hot weather.

More about CRASH TESTING

Crash Testing at DT Boxes At DT Boxes, safety is paramount. We are committed to providing the very best for your pet, which is why we’ve invested significant time and resources into testing our crates to ensure maximum protection during travel. Our crates undergo rigorous rapid deceleration sled testing — the same method used for child car seats. Because pets are beloved family members, we hold our products to the highest human safety standards. 👉 ▶ Watch Our Sled Crash Test Video Sled Testing Explained Many competitors fall short of these standards and often fail to share evidence or results. At DT Boxes, transparency matters. We’re proud of our testing results and have nothing to hide. The sled test is a comprehensive structural safety assessment designed to ensure your dog remains secure in the event of a sudden collision. Imagine you’re driving with your dog safely inside a DT Box in your car. Suddenly, another vehicle crashes into you, causing rapid deceleration. This is exactly the type of scenario our sled testing replicates. How We Test To replicate real-world conditions, we place dummies representing your dog’s weight inside the crates — one 25kg dummy for a single crate, and two 25kg dummies for a double crate. We then simulate a severe collision with a 10G impact — meaning the force is ten times greater than the combined weight of the crate and dummies. This process confirms that DT Boxes can withstand extreme forces, ensuring that even in a sudden and severe crash, your crate remains secure and your pet protected. Watch the Crash Test Check out the video below to see DT Boxes in action during testing. While it may not look fast on screen, rest assured this is a high-impact, industry-standard crash test carried out by a professional test facility. Rear-End Collision Safety Some customers ask whether our testing accounts for rear-end collisions. The answer is yes — our boxes are specifically designed with this in mind. The special polymer material we use absorbs impact far better than alternatives like aluminium. While aluminium can dent or deform in an accident, DT Boxes are engineered to maintain their shape and effectively disperse force. Recently, one of our customers was involved in a rear-end collision at 70mph on the motorway. Despite the severity of the crash, their DT Box remained intact — and most importantly, their dogs were completely safe. Don’t just take our word for it — read their testimonial below. TESTIMONIAL (Photos from Yasmin at Bear Basics Canine Academy) "Yesterday afternoon, we were involved in an accident on the motorway. We were travelling around 65-70mph in the inside lane when all of a sudden we felt a bang and were jolted forward at some force, the van then spun out and we spun at least twice before the rear of the van banged into the central reservation. We must've travelled 50 yards out of control. Thanks to Nick's reactions, we didn't end up rolling into the van. It turned out a van travelling in the outside lane had a blowout on a tyre, causing his van to veer over 3 lanes at 70+mph and unfortunately we were in the path of that van. Our immediate thoughts were "are the dogs okay?". Luckily they were, albeit they were stressed out but no physical harm was done and that's thanks to DT Boxes! Their crates saved our dogs from serious harm and potential death. Our crates came away totally unharmed, except for Luna's door being totally bent inwards but that was from the Yeti box banging into it. I do believe the solidness of the crates prevented the van from being in a worse condition and had we not had crash tested crates, the outcome could've been totally different. Please, please, PLEASE, invest in some GOOD quality crash tested crates. Whether you drive to the park and back or travel on the motorway, a crash is a crash. Whether you are going 30mph or 70mph, damage can still be done. If your dog travels in the boot or travels loose in the car, please consider investing in some crates. It's a lifetime investment that may put you out of pocket for a while but at least you know your dog will be safe and unharmed. Thank you DT Boxes for providing such high quality crated and potentially saving our dogs lives" - Yasmin Head-On Collision Safety At DT Boxes, we know our customers are careful drivers, but sometimes accidents are unavoidable. One of our customers was recently involved in a serious head-on collision. While their car sustained severe damage, the DT Box remained completely intact. On inspection, the box was found to be in perfect condition and didn’t even need replacing — a huge relief for the owner. Most importantly, their dogs were safe and unharmed. Check out the photos below to see the crash and the remarkable resilience of the DT Box. (photos from India JD. Our DT in the Ford Puma) Final Word Your dog’s safety is paramount — that’s why choosing a secure travel crate is so important.
